THE GREAT ARKANSAS TALENT SEARCH
SONGWRITERS DIVISION
RULES AND PROCEDURES

All songwriters who wish to enter the contest must register. Registration forms can be found at thegreatarkansastalentsearch.com, and can be printed out and mailed to the studio, or the contestant may bring the registration in person. The address for the studio is: 401 Maple Street, Suite B, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72114.

There is a $50.00 registration fee due upon submission of the registration form. All contestants must pay the $50.00 registration fee before being allowed to participate in the competition.

Once a contestant is registered they will be scheduled for a mentoring/coaching session at infrared Studio Productions. At this session the contestant will submit their song. Contestants may enter more than one song into the competition, however the $50.00 registration fee applies to each song submitted. Entering more than one song does not necessarily increase your odds of winning as each song will be judged on its own. Songs may be submitted that were co-written by more than one songwriter. At least one of the songwriters must be registered for the event, and it is up to the songwriters involved to determine any splitting of the prize if any is awarded. Infrared Studio will only award the prize to the registered songwriter, and will have no involvement in any further distribution of prizes to non-registered co-writers. Eric Chesher, Producer at Infrared Studios, and Charlie Crow, Regional Coordinator for NSAI will review the song with the contestant and offer coaching and song development suggestions. This is purely a coaching and mentoring session and is strictly for the development of the contestant and their writing craft. No contestant will be “cut” from the competition at this session.

At the scheduled mentoring /coaching session each contestant will be scheduled for a live performance of their song. The live performances will be held at Khalil’s Pub and Grill located at 110 S. Shackelford Rd., Little Rock Arkansas, 72211. Depending on the number of contestants there may be more than one night of performances at Khalil’s, however, each contestant will only perform once. When every contestant has had their song performed, the judges will confer and the top 5 will be selected.

Contestants will have the following options for their live performance. They may play and sing the song themselves. They may have an accompanist play for them. They may have another artist perform the entire song for them. They may bring a pre-recorded finished version of the song and have it played over the sound system for consideration. THE WRITERS WILL NOT BE JUDGED ON THE PERFORMANCE OF THE SONGS IN THE LIVE ROUND. We are trying to find the best writer, not the best performer.

If selected for the top five, the writers will submit a second song for the next round. Writers may submit a new song for consideration, or they may choose to submit the same song. THERE IS NO ADDITIONAL FEE FOR SUBMITTING A NEW SONG IN THE TOP FIVE ROUND. THE REGISTRATION FEE IS A ONE TIME FEE FOR ENTRY INTO THE CONTEST, AND NO FURTHER FEES OF ANY KIND WILL BE CHARGED AT ANY TIME.

Upon submission of the second song, the writers will be scheduled for another mentoring/coaching session at Infrared Studio with Eric Chesher and Charlie Crow. At this session further coaching and song development will be offered, and again, no contestant will be “cut” at this session. This is purely a second chance to receive coaching and mentoring and is purely for the development of the contestant and their writing craft.

At this session, each contestant will be scheduled for a second live performance at Khalil’s Pub and Grill located at 110 S. Shackelford Rd., Little Rock, Arkansas 72211.

The same live performance options will be in place for this round as in the first live performance.

After all the performances the judges will confer, and the winner will be selected. The winner will receive a top prize of $2,500.00, and a complete album of their music to be professionally recorded and produced by Infrared Studio Productions. The winner has the option of foregoing the recording of the album, and in such case Infrared Studio will award an additional $500.00 to the cash prize for a total of $3,000.00. It is to be noted that this is solely the decision of the winner, and the $500.00 does not reflect the full value of cost of recording a complete album. The $500.00 is strictly an added cash value to the top prize in lieu of recording time and production.

At no time will Infrared Studio ask for, or require any contestant to sign any agreement as to the rights or ownership of any material or works of art submitted for the purpose of competing in the The Great Arkansas Talent Search. Ownership of all songs, rights and royalties shall at all times remain the sole possession of the writer and or writers of the works submitted or recorded at Infrared Studio.

At no time will Infrared Studio require or ask for any of the contestants to sign any form of contract obligating any writer, artist or performer for their services in any capacity with Infrared Studio. Each writer and or contestant will remain unencumbered and independent of any restrictions or contractual obligations. Any awards or prizes should not be construed as contractual obligations and are purely given as recognition of success within the competition.

This contest is solely the property and engagement of Infrared Studio Productions. THIS CONTEST IS NOT SANCTIONED IN ANY WAY BY THE NASHVILLE SONGWRITERS ASSOCIATION INTERNATIONAL, AND IS INDEPENDENT OF THE NSAI AND ANY AND ALL SUBSIDIARIES. CHARLIE CROW, REGIONAL WORKSHOP COORDINATOR FOR NSAI IS STRICTLY INVOLVED AS A MENTOR AND WRITING DEVELOPMENT COACH AND IN NO WAY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE JUDGING AND SELECTION OF THE WINNER. HIS PARTICIPATION DOES NOT IN ANY WAY CONSTITUTE THE INVOLVEMENT OF THE NSAI OR ANY OF HIS RESPONSIBILITIES IN REGARD TO HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE NSAI.
